Knowing and Buying Computer Microphones

In this technology driven world the computer seems to be part and parcel of life. Almost everything is now being done with the help of computers. When Charles Babbage invented his difference engine in 1821 the first computers were born. In fact he is sometimes considered the father of computers.

Gradually with the passage of time revolution in computer came. So, various kinds of computer accessories gradually came into existence. Like speakers, microphone etc. Computer microphone invented in 1877 by Emile Berner is an electronic device through which one can record voice or other sound and then save them into your computer. Generally these kinds of files are saved as wav files. The popularity of this microphone is gradually increasing because its usage has increased tremendously with the passage of time. It has offered a new way to communicate with your friends, family and relatives or anyone in the world. With the help of computer microphone we can conduct online voice conferences or can have voice chat with our near and dear ones also.

From the above paragraph it is clear that the basic function of a computer microphone is to send the best sound signals to the computer. In market today we will find a wide range of computer microphones. The users choose according to their needs and preferences and also depending on the nature of the work. One interesting thing about them is that we don’t need any software to install. The 21st century computer comes with ready-made enhancements that support these microphones.

Due to wide variety of availability of microphones the buyers are confused which one to buy. While choosing them one should keep in mind that they should buy them depending on their nature of work, like whether you want to conduct a conference or want to chat on line with friends. A good PC microphone must have the ability to deliver good quality and clear sounds. The other characteristics that one should look while buying it are that they should have noise canceling filters that aids in diminishing unwanted background noise. High quality integrated circuits that will help to catch the voice more clearly and accurately. And last but not the least the material especially the outer one must be of best quality so that the internal peripherals are well covered in case the user drops it suddenly.

The various kinds of computer microphones are Condenser that are popular for the home studio, Dynamic that has the capability to handle a much more higher volume than the condenser type, Ribbon which are known to add smoothness to the recordings and the last one is USB that can be plugged into an Usb port on computers and laptops.

The recent phenomenon says that USB microphones are in great demand because it can be directly connected to the USB port and any sound card is not required. In fact this kind of microphones can be used in Laptops also. Till now this version is the best and latest.

Technology Used In Laser Microphones And their Uses

Microphones are commonly used in every stage performance, music concert, television program and such other events. Generally, during a performance, sound waves are captured in microphones with the help of diaphragm, which experience a vibration when the waves get initiated into the microphone. Finally the original sound is received after the vibrations get converted into electrical signals. Among various types of microphones, laser microphones are the exclusive ones, with latest technical features.

The technology of laser is quite interesting and a popular one. Laser microphones basically use the same technology while experimenting with the sound. They first of all detect the vibrations in a reflected laser beam and then convert them into audio signal. To say more, with the help of laser light, the laser microphones converts the acoustical sound waves to electrical signal, so that it can be processed and amplified for sound reproduction.

The laser beam that it has must be reflected off a glass window or any rigid surface, which will vibrate corresponding to the nearby sound. This microphone has the ability to turn any vibrating surface into a microphone just by measuring the space between itself and the surface. This is because, while doing so, the little fluctuations in the space become the electrical signal of the sound.

However, these types of microphones are designed in a typical way. The outer housing, which is cylindrical in shape, has spaced opening so that the sound waves can enter. There is also an inner housing, which too is cylindrical in shape and is positioned centrally inside the outer one. Then, to project the laser light into the space between the outer and the inner housing and a detector to receive the laser light that modulates the sound and produce electrical signals out of the waves entering the outer housing.

The laser in the laser microphones is capable of measuring the accurate distance between itself and the surface where it is bouncing off, so in this way it can measure the fluctuation of that surface with the vibration of the sound waves. However, these kinds of microphones are used in movies as spy equipments.

Besides this, there are other types of microphones too. Like, there are lavaliere microphones, contact microphones, parabolic microphones, which are generally used for musical purpose and are in demand. Among all these, the laser microphones are the latest ones but quite expensive and point to be noted is that it is not very portable.

The best feature of the laser microphones is that it provides realistic and distortion free sound that usually was a problem with the older form of mics. Infact, the use of laser beams for sound reproduction has solved many technical problems. In the earlier forms there was only one sound channel that usually received sound from one direction. But the newest forms of microphones like the laser ones have multiple sound channels, which produce sound that are much more realistic and amazing. These types of microphones are even used in movies to give special sound effect.

The Technology and Functioning of the Full Range Loudspeakers

There are a number of full range loudspeakers such as Lowther, Fostex, Diatone and many more. They can cover most of the major frequency span produced by human voice and common musical instruments without a crossover to another driver. A full range loudspeaker drive unit is known to reproduce as much of the audible frequency range as possible with a high quality reproduction of sound. This is very faithful to the original master recording. In other words, it has high fidelity. It can reproduce sound within the boundaries imposed by the physical limitations of the specific design.

There are only a few manufacturers producing full range loudspeakers, because of its high fidelity use. A full range drive unit consists of a single driver element, or a voice coil. They are used to control and move a diaphragm. Usually, the cone structure of the full range drive unit includes the optimizations to enhance a high frequency performance. The shape and the materials used in the cone of such one loudspeaker are generally optimized as well.

The technique for using a compliantly coupled or modified diaphragm for the low frequencies, auxiliary whizzer or a modified dust cap, is a kind of mechanical crossover. A modified dust cap is also known as a dome for the high frequency response of a speaker. Mechanical crossover is commonly found in full range loudspeakers designed to cover as much of the audio band as possible.

The requirements to design a full range loudspeaker include two of the most important features, the low and the high frequency response. A full range driver is generally limited to cover the audio spectrum of the range above perhaps 100 hertz. This excludes the lower frequencies, they are usually handled or amplified by a separate sub woofer or by a cabinet specially designed for low frequency reinforcement.

The full range speaker must have good sensitivity for lower frequencies including a light voice coil for high frequencies. These speakers use much larger and powerful magnet than any other usual speakers. This improves the sensitivity. On the other hand it lowers the power requirements at low frequencies as well as allowing a lighter voice coil.

There are a wide variety of full range loudspeakers at different prices. The cost of a full range drive unit is based on its application ranging from inexpensive multimedia loudspeakers, to costly esoteric cabinets. The esoteric cabinets use larger transmitting line or horn loaded enclosures to increase low frequency output.

Critics have cited the inability to reproduce fast and complex musical forms of the full range loudspeakers. They have cited that the reproduction of the low frequencies with the same diaphragm, which also handles high frequencies, causes a Doppler distortion when one surface attempts to produce both concurrently. They also cited that the full range loudspeakers have reduced the output at the extreme, as they occasionally result in a boxy or a bandwidth limited midrange sound without much treble.
Besides all the critical comments cited above, there are many advantages associated with full range loudspeakers. It contains all the speaker elements in one basket. They consist a woofer for the low frequencies and a tweeter mounted onto the woofer to produce the high frequencies.
