Different Kinds of Music Gear

A musical instrument or a music gear is a device constructed or modified with the purpose of making music. In principle anything that, produces sound, and can somehow be controlled by a person playing it, can serve as a musical gear. The expression, however, is reserved generally for items that have a specific musical purpose. The academic study of musical instruments is called organology. The different kinds of music gears include guitar, piano, drums, synthesizer, flute and the list is endless.

Bass Guitar
Bass guitar is a stringed instrument played with the fingers either by plucking, slapping, popping, tapping or using a pick. Bass guitar has a large body, long neck.

Piano
The piano is a musical instrument played by means of a keyboard. It produces sound by striking steel strings with felt hammers that immediately rebound allowing the string to continue vibrating at its resonance frequency. These vibrations are transmitted through the bridges to the soundboard, which amplifies them. The piano is widely used in Western music for solo performance, chamber music, and accompaniment. It is also very popular as an aid to composing and rehearsal. Although not portable and often expensive, the versatility and ubiquity of the piano have made it one of the most familiar musical instruments. It is sometimes classified as both a percussion and a string instrument.

Accordion
An accordion is a musical instrument of the handheld bellows driven free reed aerophone family, sometimes referred to as squeeze boxes. The accordion is played by compression and expansion of a bellows, which generates air flow across reeds. A keyboard or buttons control, which reeds receive air flow and therefore the tones produced. Modern accordions consist of a body in two parts, each generally rectangular in shape, separated by a bellows. On each part of the body is a keyboard containing buttons, levers or piano style keys. When pressed, the buttons travel in a direction perpendicular to the motion of the bellows.

Synthesizer
A synthesizer is generally any kind of electronic musical instrument, or electronic device capable of producing or manipulating audio tones, such as musical notes, through audio signal processing. The term originates from the Greek word syntithetai. Synthesizers work by manipulating electrical signals, which appear as sound when they are used to drive audio amplifiers. These tones are generated by electrical circuits which may work by manipulating a signal through a series of oscillators and filters in an analog circuit.

Flute
The flute is a musical instrument of the woodwind family. Unlike other woodwind instruments, a flute is a reed less wind instrument that produces its sound from the flow of air against an edge, instead of using a reed. In its most basic form, a flute can be an open tube which is blown like a bottle. There are several broad classes of flutes. With most flutes, the musician blows directly across the edge of the mouthpiece. However, some flutes, such as the whistle, gemshorn, flageolet, recorder, tin whistle, tonette, fujara, and ocarina have a duct that directs the air onto the edge. These are known as fipple flutes. The fipple gives the instrument a distinct timbre which is different from non fipple flutes and makes the instrument easier to play, but takes a degree of control away from the musician.

Buying Second Hand Music Gear

Buying a new musical instrument can cost much more than what your budget permits. So, especially for those who are beginning to learn the instrument, it is a good idea to try out the second hand music gear. These second hand music gear are available in various local music shops. It is also available on the various music websites and as well as classified websites.

Another way of searching for a good second hand music gear is the classified advertisements of the daily newspapers. Classified websites offer innumerable choices of products. For example, if someone is looking for a guitar he can have ample choices to select from. These sites offer clear norms or rules, which are easy for both the buyers and the sellers.

There are some auction sites also where one can bid for his selected instrument. Auction sites have become very popular these days, as buyers can get their desired instrument at a very low price. But one has to abide the cyber laws, which have been implemented (to lower cyber crimes) for purchasing any instrument. There are also some facilities, given to the buyers by these sites, which make buying all the more fun. Some of these rules are:

No advertisements or external hassle.
Genuine personal supervision, service, and advice.
Proper previous and after sales service.
The ability often to combine shipments, and help with collections and deliveries for cheap and safe shipping.
No sale, no fee.
The banning of hidden reserve prices; if a person bid, he will get the item if no one is there to beat him.

Drawbacks
Buying second hand music gear can save money, but there are pitfalls for the unwary. It is all too easy to buy a bargained thing, then find it will cost more to fix than the price of a good one. With older models, external components are probably not available. These include keys, buttons, knobs and case parts. In general it is wise only to consider purchase, if the instrument is complete and in reasonable cosmetic condition. Even instruments using standard parts are not immune to this obsolescence.

Over the years the patterns, dimensions and general design of many components change. Others are ceased to be made when sales drop below economic margin. Previously many digital instruments used devices called ULAs. These were a cross between a high volume produced standard gate array and a custom part. A standard matrix of gates was made in large numbers, but the mask printed interconnections, essential to form a working logic system were omitted. The device was thus not committed to serve any particular purpose.

Conclusion
Buying a second hand music gear to begin learning an instrument is a good option. Good instruments are available at local music shops, where one can verify the condition of the instrument, bargain directly with the seller and then buy the thing. Sometimes one can also avoid paying shipping charges when buying from a local shop. Online purchases offer innumerable options of selecting the right instrument for oneself. One can bargain and bid for his favorite instruments too.

Know All About Electronic Music Gear

All the equipments, which are necessary for music, are called music gear. Music gear again can be of two types. Some of them are acoustic and some of them are electronic. In this article, we will talk about the electronic music gear.

Electronic music gears are the ones that work electrically. All the electronic instruments, like, electric guitars, synthesizers, octo pads are kind of electronic music gears. But they are not all. Amplifiers, microphones, tools that are used in sound studios also fall in this category.

Here is a small description of different electronic music gears:

Electric guitar
It is a very important music gear. This instrument has a pick up. Once you plug in the instrument with the amplifier, you will get a perfect sound, actually electric guitar do not have any unplugged sound like the acoustic guitar. It has got a completely different sound. It has a sound, which is metallic. But you can make an acoustic tone in an electric guitar with the help of a processor. You need the pick up and the amplifier to produce its sound.

Synthesizer
Synthesizer is a complete electronic gear. It does not have any acoustic version. You need the electricity to run this instrument. Synthesizer does not have any sound of its own. It only copies the sound of other instruments and delivers that particular sound.

Octopads
Octopads are the electrical version of drums. They are small, easy to handle and are able to change its tone. The best thing about them is that as they are small and the player does not need to take along many percussion instruments with him. Many of those effects are available in the instrument.

Amplifiers
These are very important electronic music gear, without which not a single professional music show can be staged. Amplifiers are the one, which deliver the sound of all instruments and vocal and make the sound reach to audience in every corner.

Microphones
Microphones and amplifiers are very much interrelated. Microphones are a special kind of gear that enhance the sound and tone of the vocalists and instruments. Actually, microphone captures the sound and sends that to the audience. This is almost like the amplifiers. But the amplifier cannot capture the sound directly. It comes from the microphone. It just delivers the sound.

Processor
This particular gadget is mainly used with the guitar. Processor is a box where different tones and effects are stored. If you attach it with the guitar, then the guitarist will be able to choose those tones and effects from the processor and can play it in his guitar.

Electronic music gear is very sensitive. They need to be taken care of properly. And as they are expensive, their insurance is surely needed. These gears have a complicated handling process. Before using them, one should understand all the handling properly. For this the manuals should be read.

Indeed electric gears are very interesting. By using them, you can change the whole approach of the music. If you are a music lover, then you will not be able to stop yourself from getting fond of electronic music gears.
