How to choose a Guitar

There are several guitars on the market and the way you choose depends largely on what kind of music you intend to play. They must also physically comfortable with your guitar and, of course, will be on your size. The weight of the guitar is important, especially if you like to play the instrument quite regularly to ensure that you do not choose one that is too heavy for you, because this will only weigh you down.

The look and the sound of the guitar have an appeal to you. There are so many shapes, colors and surfaces and all guitars a slightly different sound, the best quality is usually the most expensive.

After all these factors into consideration your choice of guitar remains with the kind of music you play. For example, if you are in classical music a guitar with intestinal or nylon strings is ideal. The back and sides should, rosewood with either cedar or spruce for the top. It is quite similar to the kind of flamenco guitar for the game, but the flamenco guitar is thinner, and the body is more shallow and from cypress with cedar at the top.

The classical guitar with the hollow body and nylon strings and the electric steel guitar with its solid wood body and neck and bolted to steel strings, such as the Fender Stratocaster are probably the two most popular types of guitar whole. Within these two types of guitars, there are many variations, semi-acoustic and semi-solid as an example for them. The next most popular is the bass guitar, but find when buying your first guitar, that the main options open, you will find the choice between acoustic and electric models.

If you have not played before then you should really consider an acoustic guitar. It is easier to play, and you do not need anything else to get started, except in the case, a lanyard, some picks and, of course, your notes all reasonably priced. If you choose an electric guitar, you need an amplifier and at least one field effects. This increases the price considerably and also makes the choice even more difficult for you. (more…)

How to Choose A Guitar Amp Speaker

An electric guitar speaker is a loudspeaker specifically the driver (transducer) part designed for use in or with the guitar amplifier of an electric guitar. Installed in a cabinet with amplification and possibly multiple speakers. Typically these drivers produce only the frequency range relevant to guitars which is similar to a regular woofer type driver which is approximately 75Hz to 5kHz.

The range of sounds in terms of Hz which include the highs, middle range and low level sounds in a guitar speaker have a narrow range of sound compared to a stereo speaker. The two types of speakers are like comparing apples and oranges. In other words, their range and type of sound as well as the intended purposes are different and not interchangeable.

The cones of these drivers typically range in size from 6.5in to 15in with 10 and 12in models being the most popular. As with all loudspeaker drivers, the magnets are usually made from Alnico, ceramic, or neodymium with higher quality Alnico magnets reserved for expensive models. (more…)

How To Play Bass Pedals

If you play the organ then you are probably familiar with bass pedals. They are also available as separate units and are known as MIDI bass pedals and you can use them with any keyboard that has MIDI ports. Just connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI out on the keyboard to the MIDI in on the pedal board and you can play any of your keyboard sounds from the pedal board.

Playing the pedals can be a bit daunting at first. I remember when I first attempted to play the pedals when I started to play the organ. I had learned to play the piano for fifteen years before I started on organ so music ability wasn’t the problem, but I could not get the hang of these pedals. Part of the problem is playing style; with a piano, you have a moving right hand and left hand, so to suddenly expect your left foot to start playing a pedal keyboard is asking a lot.

Ideally, you want your bass foot to be an extension of your left hand. So when you play a chord with your left hand, you play the root of that chord on the bass pedal. (more…)

Gadgets, I love them, take something that can be done in a number of ways, find the most pointless way of doing it and there you have the making of a good gadget. Why for example would you want to open a bottle of wine with a bottle opener that will cost you 2pounds when you can also do it with one that costs 50 times as much, or maybe one that’s built into your sandal or belt buckle.

But gadgets aren’t just about helping you get your bottle of wine open. They come in all shapes and sizes and some would say that the term covers the entire consumer electronics field. I am a gadget lover, ie to love all things gadgety.

The Melancholy Music of the Violin

The violin is a member of the string instrument group. It has four strings that must be tuned precisely in order to produce the desired sound. The violin is a fairly temperamental instrument that easily falls out of tune and must be tuned perfectly or the sound will be off. It is possibly the combination of having to learn how to tune this instrument properly, hold the hand on the neck of the violin right and use the bow properly that this particular instrument is often seen as one of the more difficult ones to learn. The violin is often referred to as the fiddle, which is its informal title. In the past the strings of the violin were made of animal gut or catgut and the hairs on the bow were made of horse hair. Today, the strings are often made out of steel or other metals and the bows are still made with horse hair.

While the violin may not have a history as long or old as wind instruments or percussion instruments do, it has still existed for a long time. Throughout most of its history, the violin remained more or less the same in use and appearance until the 1700s. (more…)
